Tea Cup Cookies

These tea cup cookies are part of a collaboration with the very talented food blogger/vlogger Jana Gerber of Küchenkram (kitchenstuff). Her YouTube videos are some of the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen and her recipes look amazing. One of my favorites of hers is the Nutella brownie video, which you can see here.
For this project, we decided to do something warm and comforting for fall. Jana created a video that will show you how to make chai tea and I made these hand painted tea cup cookies to go along with her recipe. Now you can have chai tea with your cookies that look like a cup of chai tea!
To make these tea cup cookies you will need:
  • Roll out cookie dough (my Orange Vanilla Spice recipe is available in my tutorial shop)
  • Tea cup cookie cutter (I used one from Wilton)
  • An oblong cutter for the saucer*
  • Flood consistency royal icing
  • Americolor chocolate brown for the cinnamon stick and chai tea color
  • Americolor red mixed with a little burgundy
  • Tip 2 and 3
  • Gold luster dust
  • A small paint brush
  • Alcohol or flavored extract to mix with the luster dust (Alcohol or flavored extracts are used for painting on royal icing because they evaporate very quickly, which means that the liquid won’t dissolve the icing as you are applying the paint. The stronger the alcohol, the better!)
  • Wilton brown color dust
For products used in this and other tutorials, visit my Amazon Store.
*The oblong cutter shown here was a round cutter that I squished into this shape.
Watch this video to see how to decorate these tea cup cookies:

The gold dust shown in this video is the Super Gold from NY Cake. If you don’t want to use alcohol when painting with gold, read this post to learn about alternatives to alcohol.
If you’d like to learn more about how to use flood consistency royal icing, visit my tutorial shop for a video with full instructions on flooding with royal icing.
