Lemon Cookies Decorated With Royal Icing

My grandmother has a small collection of napkins with so many different beautiful patterns. I spotted a blue and white design at her house and she gave me some to take home to use in the video of these lemon cookies decorated with royal icing. The design on the napkins is the inspiration behind the blue and white elements in this set of decorated cookies.

I worked on a lemon-themed bridal shower order shortly after creating this set, so this was a great way for me to test out some of my ideas. The small lemons are royal icing transfers that I piped onto a piece of wax paper. Once the royal icing transfers were dry, I peeled them off of the wax paper and applied them to the cookies.

Here's what you'll need to make these lemon cookies decorated with royal icing

  • Chilled sheet of cookie dough
  • Plaque cookie cutters (I used Ann Clark brand)
  • 2-½” round cookie cutter
  • Knife to cut round cookie
  • Royal icing
  • The Sugar Art natural food coloring in Golden Ivory, Sunny, Ruby, Arctic Blue, Slate, and Garden Sage
  • 3 12” decorating bags with coupler
  • 10 tipless decorating bags
  • Decorating tips 1, 2, and 3
  • Bag ties or rubber bands
  • Scribe tool
  • Lemon template
  • Wax paper covered board for royal icing transfers
  • Dish of water
  • Dry paper towel
  • Stiff decorator brush (I used Wilton brand)
