Eid al-Adha falls at the end of July this year and since I have many followers on my blog and social media who celebrate, I thought it would be fun to create a beautiful set of Eid Cookies with symbols that represent the holiday.

When searching for inspiration for these Eid cookies, I came across lots of beautiful images with deep shades of purple and blue with gold embellishments.
If you’ve been following me for a while you probably know that painting with gold luster dust on royal icing requires the use of alcohol, so I had to think of another way to get gold decorations on these cookies.
The solution: Edible gold leaf! It’s not easy to work with but I love the result. I used Wilton’s Dab-N-Hold edible adhesive to apply the gold leaf to the royal icing transfers (see how to make the transfers in the video tutorial).
Here’s what you’ll need to make these Eid Cookies

- Chilled sheet of cookie dough (my recipe is available to my Patreon Subscribers or get it in my tutorial shop)
- SweetAmbs Ornate Square Cookie Cutter by Ann Clark Cookie Cutters
- Dark purple flood consistency royal icing (I used a combination of Chefmaster Violette and Navy Blue)
- White medium consistency royal icing
- Dark purple medium consistency royal icing (color the leftover white medium consistency icing with Violette and Navy Blue to match the base color)
- 12” decorating bags
- Couplers
- Decorating tips 1 and 3
- Bag ties
- Scribe tool
- Acrylic board or baking sheet wrapped with parchment paper
- Lantern, moon and star, and ram template (below)
- Edible gold leaf
- Edible adhesive
- Dragee tweezers
- Decorator brushes
- Gold luster dust (I used Crystal Colors Antique Gold)
