Piped Royal Icing Violas - SweetAmbs

Piped Royal Icing Violas

In my last livestream, I shared how I decorated cookies with real edible violas (you can watch the replay here in the Cookie Art Club in case you missed it. This week, I’ll demonstrate how I piped royal icing violas to decorate these potted flowers cookies.

The video tutorial, supply list, and instructions can be found in the Cookie Art Club!

Just like all of the cookies I’ve shared here over the last few months, the icing on these cookies is made with natural food coloring from The Sugar Art. The terra cotta color is a combination of their Sunny, Ruby, and Arctic blue food coloring. The full color mixing instructions are included with the tutorial in the Cookie Art Club.

I created texture in the icing on the terra cotta pot cookie by placing a piece of embossed parchment paper on top after applying the icing. You can find this embossed parchment paper at Sugar Love Baking Supplies.

I used white and purple stiff consistency royal icing to pipe these violas (you can read all about the different royal icing consistencies in my Ultimate Guide to Royal Icing). After the icing dried, I painted the centers with food coloring mixed with vodka. Read this post to learn more about painting on royal icing.
