Red And White Christmas Cookies

These red and white Christmas cookies were made entirely free hand without the use of stencils or guides. I made a short video to show how I created the tiny deer using royal icing.

I began with a 4" Christmas tree cookie, which I iced and let dry overnight.

While trying to come up with a design for my Christmas cookies this year, my mom suggested that I use only red and white.  A few days later, I saw this red and white tablecloth on my friends' dining table. It became the inspiration for the filigree trees.

These cookies are available for sale in my Etsy shop:

Thanks for the suggestion, mom! And thanks, T&J for having an awesome tablecloth.

  4. How do you get the icing to be so beautifully red? Is there a brand that you use of color that's works better then others?

  5. WOW, I´m so impressed with you work..it looks so easy..I´m always afraid of working with RI, because the consistence of my homemade recipe is weather too smooth so it rinse always of the cake...some trials went wrong...will try your recipe anyway...hope it will work out! greetings from austria!

  6. This actually inspired the tags, stickers and wrapping for my Christmas presents this year. 🙂 I was struggling with it and had already decided on a design for the cookies (a simple one since I needed to do over 80), but I saw these cookies on Pinterest and knew I had to do a fair isle style "branding" for the whole thing. Thanks for the inspiration! 😀

  7. I'm mesmerized by your tutorials and love the music that goes along with them. You make it look so easy, yet if you saw my outcomes, you would giggle. Are you going to do any seminars in New Orleans, like the one you just did in New York?

  8. I just watched you make the deer.... That is so amazing!!!

I can't believe how much time it would have taken you.

How many deer did you do all together?

  9. Amber - you are so talented and I am so impressed with this tutorial, I have watched it so many times and it still amazes me how incredible you are. Could I please ask that you share a cookie recipe, I would love to try this and know that your recipe would be amazing too. Many thanks.

  10. I love you work... You are amazing... Ive noticed in a few tutorials a blue scribe... Can you tell me where I can find one?

  11. Dear Amber, finally I also can leave a comment, before it was impossible to write my name and e-mail it crashed every time!
