This April Fools' Day dessert was a last minute project for us, but fortunately I had chocolate cake mix and canned frosting on hand! You can certainly make these components from scratch if you prefer.
Here's what you'll need:
Ingredients
- Chocolate cake mix
- Vanilla frosting
- Strawberry jam
- Caramel sauce
- Food coloring - red, blue, yellow, brown
- Corn starch
Tools
- Small loaf pan
- Decorating bag
- Decorating tip number 8
- Brush

Instructions
- Bake the cake and crumble it into a bowl. Add a scoop of frosting and mix well.
- Add red food coloring and continue to mix until combined.
- Press the mixture into a loaf pan and chill until firm.
- Slice the loaf and place the pieces onto a plate.Brush it with strawberry jam.
- Place a scoop of frosting onto the plate and make a well for the "gravy".
- Spoon caramel sauce onto the frosting.
- Color a scoop of frosting with blue, yellow, and brown food coloring to create pea green.
- Fit a decorating bag with a tip 8 and fill it with the frosting. Pipe the "peas" onto the plate.
- Dab the "peas" with corn starch and a dry brush to flatten any points.
