Supplies

These supplies are available in my Amazon Store unless otherwise noted

  • Cookie dough (use your favorite or get my recipe in the Cookie Art Club
  • Pumpkin, skull, and round cookie cutters
  • Flood consistency royal icing in white, black, purple, orange, and pink
  • 12″ decorating bags
  • Bag ties
  • Couplers
  • Decorating tips 1, 2, and 3
  • Two-in-one tool (aka scribe tool)
  • Colors: Pink, black, yellow, and orange from the Wilton Color Right set, edible black color dust (I add this to the black icing to help deepen the color)
  • Brush
  • Alcohol or any flavor extract – Alcohol or flavored extracts are used for painting on royal icing because they evaporate very quickly, which means that the liquid won’t dissolve the icing as you are applying the paint.
  • Palette or small dishes for mixing paint

Instructions

  • Pumpkin
  1. Begin by icing a pumpkin-shaped cookie in sections with orange icing and a decorating tip 2.
  2. Use a scribe tool to help shape the icing. Allow the icing to dry for about 30 minutes.
  3. Fill in the remaining sections.
  4. Pipe the stem with purple icing and a decorating tip 2.
  5. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  • Bats
  1. Ice a round cookie with white icing and a decorating tip 3.
  2. Pipe the bats with black icing and a tip 1.
  3. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  4. Add eyes with pink icing and a tip 1.
  5. Pipe a dot border with purple and orange icing and a tip 1.
  • Spider Web
  1. Ice a round cookie with orange icing and a decorating tip 3.
  2. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  3. Pipe rings with purple icing and a decorating tip 1.
  4. Drag the scribe tool through the icing starting in the center and moving toward the edge.
  • Skull
  1. Apply white icing to a skull-shaped cookie with a decorating tip 3.
  2. Use a spatula to spread the icing.
  3. Allow the icing to dry for about 1 hour.
  4. Outline the face and edge of the skull with purple icing and a decorating tip 1.
  5. Switch to a decorating tip 3 and immediately fill in the empty space with the purple icing.
  6. Use the scribe tool to evenly distribute the icing. Allow the icing to dry completely (I let mine sit overnight to be safe).
  7. Mix yellow and orange food coloring with vodka or any flavor extract.
  8. Paint the facial features with the food coloring, starting with yellow in the center and orange around the edges.
  9. Apply orange food coloring around the edges.
  10. Pipe teeth with purple icing and a decorating tip 1.
  11. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  12. Outline the outside edge, eyes, and nose with pink icing and a tip 1.
  • Spooky Trees
  1. Ice a round cookie with white icing and a decorating tip 3.
  2. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.

  4. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
