Here's what you'll need to make octopus cookies like this one
- Chilled sheet of cookie dough (recipe in the Cookie Art Club)
- Plaque cookie cutter
- Stiff consistency royal icing plus water for thinning
- Octopus template (available in the Cookie Art Club)
- 2 decorating bags
- 1 decorating tip 3
- 1 decorating tip 1
- 2 couplers
- 2 bag ties
- Scribe tool
- Round brush
- Thin artist brush (I used one that I purchased from the art supply section of the craft store)
- Gold luster dust
- Chefmaster Navy Blue food coloring
- Chefmaster Buckeye Brown food coloring
- Strong vodka or grain alcohol (I use alcohol when I paint on royal icing because it evaporates very quickly, which means that the liquid won’t dissolve the icing.)
- Paint palette or small dish
My videos on how to make royal icing and how to thin it to flood consistency are available to my Cookie Art Club members.

You mentioned using food coloring and vodka to make a "cookie paint". Do I need to worry about the trace vodka on the cookie with kids or does it evaporate as it dries?
Hi Emily! It evaporates very quickly and I give these cookies to my own kids, but of course that's up to you if you feel comfortable with it 🙂
