As I sit here writing this, I'm sipping on my favorite Holiday drink: the chestnut praline latte from Starbucks. It's a good thing they don't offer these all year round because I find them very difficult to resist while they're available.
Latte art is always impressive, and if you've ever tried pouring steamed milk into a cup of espresso to create a pretty design, you know it's not as easy as some baristas make it look (just ask Kawaii Sweet World!). I think it's safe to say that these latte art cookies are a little easier to master than actual latte art, and if you mess up, you can always scrape the icing off and start again 🙂

3-4 cups (430 - 575 grams) all-purpose flour???
Hello Amber, living in South Africa, with no access to 240ml measuring cups, please let me know if the weights of the flour correct.
I read in an earlier post April 2020 about 3 cups weighing 384 grams.
I made these for my fellow teachers and staff members. They loved them! I used a peppermint royal icing but should have added more peppermint. They were still a big hit though!
can you use espresso or cocoa to color the royal icing? love all your work!
Thank you Bridget! Some cookie decorators do use cocoa powder to color the icing (I did it once a very long time ago and I plan to do some more experimenting with that soon). I don't think the color of espresso powder would be dark enough to make much of a difference in the color of the icing. Here is LilaLoa's tutorial on coloring royal icing with cocoa powder: https://www.lilaloa.com/2013/07/back-to-school-cookies.html
Is there no baking powder in this recipe?
That's right, there's no baking powder in this recipe 🙂
Hi, Amber! Is it really correct that 3 cups of AP flour is 575 g? That seems like far more than 3 cups to me. Thanks!
Thank you for catching that, Bridget! It should be 384 grams of flour. I recently made a change to the recipe and didn't update the grams!
Oh, good! Thank you!
I'm really sorry to do this, but I have another question about a potential mistake. There is no step 3 above. Is there something missing?
Don't be sorry! I'm the one who should be apologizing! There's nothing missing, it was just the numbers that were wrong. I fixed it 🙂
Hello Amber! Love your work. I want to make these cookies for gifts. Will they be ok for a few days since they have milk in them?
Miranda
Thank you, Miranda! Yes, they'll be fine for several days, although you have to make sure to wrap them well so they don't go stale. They'll stay fresh for about a week in an airtight container and up to 4 weeks if they are individually wrapped and heat sealed. Hi Amber, I just stumbled upon your chocolate roll out cookie recipe through Pinterest...my question, can I use this recipe with other cookie cutters other than round ones? Will the cookie hold its shape? Thanks!! Love your work!!!
Thanks, Selena! These cookies do hold their shape so you can use any cutter you like 🙂
Hi Amber,
I just baked your cookies and they are the best cacao tasting cookies ever! You are a genius. Many thanks for sharing this recipe with us.
Regards from NL,
I'm so glad you enjoyed them! Thank you!
Would it be ok to add a little bit of coffee grounds to give it that flavor or do you think it would mess up the consistency and baking of the cookie dough?
You could probably use some expresso powder mixed in with the dry ingredients. About a tsp.
Muito bonito seu trabalho, gostaria de aprender qual é esse creme que vc coloca por cima, não sei inglês ,obrigada desde já.Deus te abençoe sempre.
Hello Amber! I'm looking forward to trying out your chocolate roll out cookie dough! Love these latte art cookies. You are so creative, who would have thought to make cookies to mimic the handiwork of talented baristas?!
Dear Amber,
these cookies are simply gorgeous! <3
Hi, Amber may i know your chocolate cookies recipe is using the unsalted or salted butter?
Yes, that's correct! It's unsalted butter 🙂
Where is the recipe for the icing?
Totally fascinated watching you work. I used to do cake decorating (just dabbled, not professionally) and thought I'd try cookies. Have done ones with fondant, but searching for frosting to use for these cookies.
Hermosas muy ingeniosas. Felicidades
Thank you, Carmen!
