Custom Cookies for a Lord of the Rings Wedding Shower

I recently had the honor of creating custom cookies for a Lord of the Rings wedding shower here in the Hudson Valley. It was such a joy to create these decorated cookies and I'm so happy that they were part of the bride's special day.

While I didn't create a full cookie decorating tutorial for this set, I did use recipes and cookie decorating techniques that are available to members of the Cookie Art Club, such as brush embroidery, royal icing transfers, piping bead borders, and painting on royal icing.

The wedding gown and the ivy leaf brooch cookies in this set are made with royal icing transfers. I drew the templates, printed them out, and then covered them with wax paper on which I piped the royal icing decorations.

After allowing the icing to dry overnight, I removed the royal icing transfers from the wax paper and placed them on the cookies. Because royal icing transfers can be made well in advance, this method allows you to get a head start on your cookies. I prefer this method when a cookie has several steps, as these cookies require.

Had I flooded the cookies, let them dry overnight, and then piped the wedding dress and ivy leaf decorations on top, I would have needed to let the second layer dry completely, which means that the cookies would be out in the open for longer than they need to be.

Instead, I had my royal icing transfers dry and ready to go so that when I flooded my cookies, I only needed to let that flooded layer dry before completing the designs. This allowed me to get the cookies sealed up faster to keep them fresh.

The royal icing on these cookies is made with natural food coloring from The Sugar Art. The gorgeous shade of green is their Garden Sage, which is one of my favorite colors in their natural food coloring line.
