How To Decorate Shamrock Cookies for St. Patrick’s Day
I used a small heart cookie cutter to make these shamrock cookies for Saint Patrick’s Day. Instead of pressing the cookies together before baking them like I did here, you can bake the cookies separately and arrange them on a platter in shamrocks or clovers. That way, you’ll still have a beautiful platter, but more cookies to share!

I used natural food coloring from The Sugar Art to decorate these cookies. Rather than using green food coloring to make the shades of green shown here, I decided to create my own green by combining Arctic Blue and Sunny. You can find the color mixing instructions for this cookie design in the Cookie Art Club.
Royal icing that has food coloring in it stays wet for longer than white icing, so I had plenty of time to pipe all of these wet-on-wet lines before the icing crusted over. Also, I iced each heart-shaped leaf individually so that I wouldn’t have to rush through all 3 leaves at once.

I just love this button detail on these shamrock cookies! To make these buttons, I used the same template that I used for my Valentine’s Day cookies. This template is included with the tutorial in the Cookie Art Club.
