I've always been drawn to this rustic style - maybe it's because my parents lived on a farm in Virginia when I was born. I guess my first Christmas spent on a farm has stuck with me all these years!

I tried out a different technique for the base layer of icing on these Barn Door Christmas Cookies. Rather than icing them as I usually would, I painted a thin layer of icing on the raw cookie and then baked it to give it more of a rough finish. This technique is also great for those who prefer a cookie with just a little bit of icing!

- Roll out cookie dough (use your favorite recipe or get mine in the Cookie Art Club)
- Flood consistency royal icing
- Medium consistency royal icing
- Stiff consistency royal icing
- Decorating bags
- Decorating tip 1
- Basket weave tip
- Scotch tape
- 3-prong scribe tool
- Scribe tool
- Decorator brushes
- Colors: Red, blue, yellow, and brown from The Wilton Color Right set. Mix blue and yellow with a tiny drop of brown to make the green for the wreath.
