Rainbow Tie Dye Cookies!

Rainbow Tie Dye Cookies!

This is a technique I’ve been wanting to try for a long time. At first, I thought that the best way to make rainbow tie dye cookies would be to pipe each color separately. The problem was, however, that I just didn’t want to mix up 6 separate colors and fill all of those bags! So, I decided that I would paint the colors onto the wet icing. This technique worked out much better because the colors came out really vibrant and it had more of a realistic tie dye effect since the colors bled into each other (the only time that I’ve ever actually wanted my colors to bleed!).

Here’s what you’ll need to make these rainbow tie dye cookies:

Colors (I used Wilton Color Right)

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green = one drop of yellow + one drop of blue
  • Blue
  • Purple = one drop of red + one drop of blue

Begin by placing a drop of each color into a paint palette or into 6 separate small dishes. Add a few drops of alcohol or flavored extract to thin the color. Ice a cookie with white flood consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 3. While the icing is still wet, use the soft round brush to paint the surface of the icing. You can make a spiral or concentric circles, as you can see in the video at the bottom of this post. Tie-Dye-Cookies-2

Continue to apply the colors the cookie, rinsing the brush in between each color. Tie-Dye-Cookies-3 Tie-Dye-Cookies-4

Once all of the colors are applied, use the scribe tool to drag the icing out toward the edge of the cookie.Tie-Dye-Cookies-8

Allow the icing to dry completely, then add a purple bead border with stiff consistency icing and a tip 3. This step is shown in the video below.Tie-Dye-Cookies-9
