Plunger Cookie Cutters From Light In The Box

Plunger Cookie Cutters From Light In The Box

A couple of months ago, the generous folks at Light In The Box let me pick out some cookie cutters to try. I chose these plunger cutters because I love the shapes! They’re really meant to be used with fondant, but they work on cookies, too! These two shapes worked the best with my cookie dough. I also tried a rose design, which sort of got lost in the baking process. It’s a very pretty design, though, and I bet it would work great with fondant.Plungercutter1I hand painted these cookies. Here’s what you’ll need for this project:
I don’t usually recommend that you work with soft cookie dough, but for molded cookies like these and the ones I made with Amazing Mold Putty, it’s a necessity.
The plunger cutters arrived un-assembled, so after my friend came in from the office next door to help me put them together, I was good to go. Once the cookies are baked and cooled, mix a little bit of pink gel paste food coloring with a few drops of alcohol or flavored extract and mix in some white pearl dust. Apply the mixture on the imprinted design using a small brush.Plungercutter2
Use the gold highlighter mixed with a little bit of alcohol to paint the raised areas and the border.Plungercutter5

Mix some corn syrup with some alcohol (about 1:1) and brush it on the design. This will give the cookies an “enameled” look, much like these cookies I made with a similar technique.Plungercutter7
And that’s it! Thank you Light In The Box for letting me try out these plunger cookie cutters!Plungercutter8
