I've had lots of requests for sugar skull cookies lately for the upcoming Mexican Tradition Día de Muertos, and it's been on my list of designs to try ever since seeing Cupookie's version a couple of years ago.
I don't know what took me so long, but I have to say that if I had to make only one cookie for the rest of my life, this would be it! It was so much fun to let my piping bag go wild creating the patterns and then coloring them in with vibrant hues.

I didn't have a skull cookie cutter on hand (can you believe they've already replaced the Halloween cookie cutters with Christmas decorations at the craft store?!), so I made a card stock template and cut the dough around it using a paring knife. -

Do you provide a template for the design on the face?
Hi! I didn't create a face template for this tutorial, but you can use the one from my Galaxy Skull cookie tutorial: https://www.sweetambs.com/tutorial/galaxy-skull-cookies/
Espectacular!!!! una obra de arte!!!
I love these sugar skull cookies. The talent is amazing but I don't have the skills. Do you sell them? If available I would prefer to buy them from you. If this is possible please email me with prices. Thank you for your time.
Thank you, Awilda! I don't sell my cookies anymore, I only offer cookie decorating classes and online tutorials. I appreciate your interest!
what size is this cutter for the sugar skull cookie? Where did you get the cutter?
Hi Jill! I don't have a skull cutter, so made my own template, which you can see in this post above. Right click on it to save it to your computer so that you can print it out.
Jill, check out your local Michael's crafts store. Last year I got a plastic sugar skull cookie cutter (their Celebrate It brand) for 2.50. It cut the skull outline with one side (4" high, 3" across) and stamped a simple sugar skull design with the back side. I got it on sale at the end of the season, so am just going to be trying it out in the coming weeks
I just bought some and I got them from Avon believe it or not
You are truly gifted!
Thank you, Jill!
You are just amazing!
Thank you! 🙂
AMAZING!!! I love it!!!! <3<3<3

Do you sell the sugar skull ?
Beautiful artwork. I don't know how you have the patience, but that's what sets apart the true artists! Thanks for sharing.

I have never liked "Skulls" for Halloween until I saw these...Absolutely love these, so colorful and creative, cant wait to try my hand at making them too
Love all your work. They're amazing ?
So inspiring! So beautiful
I love the videos
This is so mesmerizing! I love your videos....these cookies are amazing as always. This video really makes me want to go make some of these skulls now!
Amber! I am always astounded with you! Love the video/tutorial... Fantastic! I'm so hoping I can do skull cookies as I would like to take them to a community function - haunted house (for kids).
I did a skull (maybe more than one) last year but I did it with food writers - lol. I was on a whim; but I did pretty good, and surprised myself. lol
I just tossed oodles of colored icing that I was using for my messed up bead cookie.
Oh well, all is not lost, I have icing that can be colored.
Thanks!!!!!
Hi Amber! I messed up a skull cookie yesterday (I was pissed); I've done it before... I couldn't get anything to cooperate... Maybe too much moisture, storm brewing/sweeping in; I was ready to throw out all of my icing. lol The only thing that was consistent was my own disgusted at me state of mind. lol I plan on trying again... I messed up a bead cookie design so I need to take a hike; maybe beat up myself. lol Oh, I need to figure out the size cookie to use (frown).
Love the look of the skulls. Getting ready to view the video/tutorial.
What a work of art! Truly amazing! Thank you!
