Palette Knife Painting Floral Wedding Cookies

There’s a new tutorial in the Cookie Art Club! Learn how to decorate a beautiful set of wedding cookies using the palette knife painting technique with royal icing.

While making these cookies I realized that this is a trust-the-process type of design 😆

The palette knife painting technique has been showing up on lots of cakes and cookies recently and I was inspired to give it a try.

To give the cookies a more rustic look, I spread a thin layer of white icing and used my spatula to add texture before I created the flowers.

I think the style is giving 2014 wedding but that’s around the time I got married so this rustic look will always hold a special place in my heart – burlap, mason jars, and all!

Here’s what you’ll need to make these palette knife painting cookies

These supplies are available in my Amazon store unless otherwise noted

  • Chilled sheet of cookie dough (I used my confetti cut-out cookie recipe with Lucky Charms marshmallows in place of the sprinkles – the recipe is available to Cookie Art Club members!)
  • 5” wedding cake cookie cutter
  • 2-½” round cookie cutter
  • Royal icing
  • Rose Pink and Leaf Green food coloring (I used Chefmaster brand food coloring)
  • Scribe tool
  • Tapered offset spatula
  • 12” Decorating bag
  • Decorating tip 2
  • Couplers & Bag ties (I used Wilton brand)

When you’re first making your flowers, you might feel discouraged because it’s looking a bit messy (speaking from experience), but once you take a step back you’ll see that this technique creates a beautiful set of cookies.
