Julia Usher's Cookier Closeup

I've admired the work of Julia Usher for a long time. She is someone that I look up to not only as a cookie designer, but also as a business woman. So, when she asked if I would like to be interviewed for a Cookier Closeup on her new cookie network, Cookie Connection, I was honored and thrilled.
Read the interview here!
This is a photo of me with the cookie design that I'm most proud of, as I mentioned in the interview with Julia. It's a cookie tower that I designed for Claire Pettibone's runway show last fall.
To go along with my Cookier Closeup, I'll be doing a live chat on Saturday, July 6th at 1pm EST on Cookie Connection. You can go there now to post your questions in advance. I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone!

  1. I have admired Julia's work as well. She does incredible work! Yours is just as beautiful! I made heart shaped lace cookies once a very long time ago and they were beautiful but now I am afraid of royal icing? I don't know why though. I also do not have a good recipe for sugar cookies. I lost my moms recipe and she passed away 3 years ago . I might be able to get it from my sister. Keep up the beautiful work.

  2. Great interview! You mention the importance of taking good photos of your work product. What kind of camera do you use? Your photos are all really good -- clear, and well-set up. Did you figure it out by trial & error? & have you ever thought about a short tutorial on photographing cookies?

    1. Thank you, Barb! Yes, it was a lot of trial and error! I use an Olympus E-520, but lately I've been using the camera on my iPhone and it works great for getting the step by step shots for tutorials. The trick is to use diffused natural light. A tutorial on shooting cookies is a great idea!
