Father’s Day Cookie Tutorial – How To Make Royal Icing Tools

Father’s Day is just around the corner! These cookies decorated with royal icing tools are a fun project to make for any handyman dad.

Here is the color palette I used for this project:

I used both Wilton and Americolor gel pastes to make these colors. The red is Americolor tulip red, but I added a little black to it in order to tone it down (it’s a little orangey without it). And, as usual, I added a touch of green to the Wilton brown in order to make it a little less pinkish. The yellow is a mixture of Wilton lemon yellow and golden yellow.
Most of the components of this cookie were piped using flood consistency royal icing except for the rope and the chain, which were piped using stiff consistency icing. Read this post for more information on the different royal icing consistencies. My cookie and royal icing recipes are available here in my tutorial shop.
Before you begin this project, you’ll need to know how to make wood grain icing.
Watch the video below to see how I piped these tiny tools.

This is the whole Father’s Day cookie set, inspired by my dad.
