Fondant Cameo Tutorial

A fondant decoration is a simple way to dress up your cookies and cakes. I made my own mold using Amazing Mold Putty to form this black and white cameo.

The Amazing Mold Putty kit comes with two canisters of putty that you mix together to form the mold. The instructions on the box are easy to follow and it’s so much fun to collect little trinkets and buttons for mold making. To see how easy it is to make your own silicone mold, visit Cakeball Love for a step-by-step tutorial.

If you don’t want to make your own mold, visit Etsy and search “fondant molds”. There are lots to choose from! Once your mold is ready to use, take a pea sized amount of white fondant… Roll it into a log shape… And press the fondant into the mold. Use a scribe tool to move the fondant into small crevices. Right after pressing the white fondant into the mold… Roll a marble sized piece of black fondant into a log shape…
And press it down onto the white fondant, filling in the rest of the mold.
Immediately remove the cameo by bending the mold backwards.

Let the cameo dry overnight.
To apply the cameo to a cookie, ice the cookie using flood consistency royal icing and place the cameo on while the icing is wet. For instructions on working with flood consistency royal icing, watch the video Flooding With Royal Icing, which available in my tutorial shop. You’ll also find a video there on how to pipe a bead border.
