Mother’s Day Cookies – Brush Embroidery and Filigree
While having dinner with my BFF and her family during a recent trip to Indiana, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful tablecloth. Of course I had to take a photo of it so that I could turn the design into a cookie when I returned to my studio! Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, I thought these would be perfect for the occasion.

I made this shade of green using the new Wilton Color Right system. Click here to read more about it.

Here are the other supplies that you’ll need to make these Mother’s Day Cookies:
- 3″ round cookies (my Orange Vanilla Spice recipe is available in the tutorial shop)
- Flood consistency royal icing in pale green
- Stiff consistency royal icing in a slightly lighter shade of green
- 12″ Decorating bags
- Decorating tip 3
- White pearl dust
- Soft brush
- Square tip brush
- Small cup of water
- Dry paper towel
Begin by icing the cookies in pale green flood consistency royal icing with a tip 3. Allow the icing to dry completely (about 8 hours). Once the icing is completely dry, cover it in white pearl dust using a soft brush. This will add a little bit of sparkle to the base layer of icing.
—
Use stiff consistency icing in a lighter shade of green with a tip 3 to pipe a filigree design. There is a video on the filigree technique with a practice template available in my tutorial shop.
—
To make brush embroidered flowers, pipe a ruffled line using the same stiff consistency icing that was used to pipe the filigree. Dip the square tip brush into a cup of water, blot the excess on a paper towel, and drag the icing toward the center of the flower. The brush embroidery technique is also available in a video in my tutorial shop.
—
Continue to layer the brush embroidered petals until you reach the edge of the cookie.
—
Repeat the process to make leaves.
—
Add dots and a bead border around the edge with the same the stiff consistency icing and tip 3.
—
Allow the decorations to dry for another hour or so before handling the cookies.
—
Happy Mother’s Day!
