I was a beginner once and I’m still learning

With all the cookies and cake photos out there on the internet, we tend to constantly compare our work to the work of others, which isn’t fair to ourselves. It is important to remember that everything takes practice, and it’s impossible to suddenly become good at something overnight.
I’ve posted these photos to show you where I started and how much my work improved over 6 years of decorating. The best thing to do to improve your skills is to spend lots of time experimenting with the techniques and, if you get frustrated with how things are going, take a break and try again. Gather all of the information you can through books, videos, decorating courses, and practice, practice, practice.
Brush Embroidery
Crowns
Christmas cookies
Wet-on-wet filigree
Monogram cookies
Hanukkah cookies
Cameos
Wet-on-wet plaid
Filigree
As you can see, not only did my decorating skills improve, but my photography skills improved, as well. Using natural light (or a light box, if you have one) is key to taking good photos. I use my iphone to take my tutorial shots, but when I’m photographing the final product, I use my Olympus e-520 DSLR, which I received as a Hanukkahristmas gift from my grandma.
