Unicorn Cookie!

A few days ago, I posted a photo on Instagram of a bunch of cookie cutters I recently got from Ann Clark Cookie Cutters. See below for a video of how I decorated this unicorn cookie!

This is what you’ll need to make this unicorn cookie

Instructions

  1. Ice the unicorn cookie with white flood consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use a scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  2. Cut a very tiny opening in a tip-less decorating bag filled with black flood consistency royal icing.
  3. Pipe the mouth and nose while the base layer is still wet.
  4. Do the same with the eye using light blue flood consistency royal icing.
  5. Use the scribe tool to place dots of white flood consistency icing in the eye.
  6. Outline the eye with the black icing and make 3 dots for eyelashes. Use the scribe tool to help shape the icing.
  7. Place edible stars near the eye with the scribe tool.Allow the icing to dry completely (overnight is best.)
  8. Pipe the horn with white stiff consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 2. Use a dry square tip brush to help shape the icing.
  9. Pipe the mane with pink medium consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 8.
  10. Place stars in the mane with the scribe tool.
  11. Paint the horn with silver pearl dust mixed with vodka or any flavor extract using the fine tip brush.

Learn to decorate a unicorn cookie with royal icing.

Materials

  • Roll-out cookie dough (use your favorite recipe or get mine in the tutorial shop)
  • Unicorn cookie cutter
  • For the base layer, nose, mouth and eyes: Flood consistency royal icing
  • For the horn: Stiff consistency royal icing
  • For the mane: Medium consistency royal icing
  • 12″ decorating bags
  • Tip-less decorating bags
  • Decorating tip 3
  • Decorating tip 8
  • Scribe tool
  • Gold Stars
  • Square tip brush (I use the brushes from the Wilton 5 piece decorator brush set)
  • Silver Pearl dust
  • Pink pearl Dust
  • Soft round brush
  • Fine tip artist brush
  • Alcohol or flavored extract for painting with pearl dust (why? read this)
  • Paint palette or small dishes
  • Colors: The Wilton Color Right color system was used to create all of the icing colors in this set of cookies
