Galaxy Skull Cookies!

It feels like we’re on the tail-end of the galaxy trend, but don’t think I’ll ever get sick of these designs! I’ve been sitting on this project for months and I finally had time to edit the video. But it worked out because these galaxy skull cookies seem fitting this time of year with Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos right around the corner.

I used a slightly different method to create the galaxy effect than in past galaxy cookies. Rather than coloring the icing, I applied white icing to the cookie and painted it with a mixture of food coloring and grain alcohol while the icing was still wet. I love how these turned out!

Here’s what you’ll need to make these galaxy skull and star cookies:

Right click on the template to save it to your computer and print it out.

Instructions:

1) Begin by flooding a star-shaped cookie with white flood consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 3.

2) Use a scribe tool to help evenly distribute the icing.

3) Paint the icing with food coloring mixed with vodka or any flavor extract, such as vanilla, lemon, or almond.

4) Swirl the colors with the scribe tool.

5) Pipe small dots with white flood consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 1.

6) Use the scribe tool to create “twinkling” stars.

7) Allow the icing to dry completely.

8) Paint the edges of the star with dark purple food coloring mixed with vodka or any flavor extract, such as vanilla, lemon, or almond.

9) Repeat the process on a skull-shaped cookie.

10) Find a link to the template for this skull and the full supply list in the description.

11) Use an edible ink marker to draw the eyes, nose and mouth.

12) Fill in the eyes, nose, and mouth with black, blue, and purple flood consistency royal icing and a decorating tip 1.

13) Use the scribe tool to swirl the colors.

14) Fill in the mouth with black flood consistency royal icing and small white dots using a tip 1.

Pin this project for later!
