This is a fun and simple cookie decorating project using FooDoodler Food Coloring Markers.
Start out with cookies iced in royal icing that has been allowed to dry overnight. The cookies shown here are mini size, about 1-1/4″.
Use your edible ink markers to draw on the icing.
The edible ink dries very quickly so there’s no need to wait if you want to package them up for gift giving.
What if you make a mistake? Can the marker be wiped off with water?
Sometimes the color can be wiped off with water if you catch it right away, but if it’s started to absorb into the icing, it can’t be removed.
Hey!
These are so cute! I’ve made similar style cookies but my question is how do you package yours? I find That when I put them in cello bags the ink smears, not so much when I put them in bakers boxes. Any tips?
Could it be because my icing uses egg whites instead of meringue powder?
Thanks, Sarah! I think it’s more likely that the smudging is because of the marker itself and not the egg white in the recipe. What brand of edible marker are you using? I find that FooDoodler brand does not smear as much as others.
Mine have smudged too and that is exactly the brand I am using. Any solutions?
I recently tried the markers on iced cookies (dried overnight) and then I packaged them. I came back a few days later to find they had bled. Have you had this issue? Any suggestions for a fix? I do live in whats considered a humid climate. Thank you!! Love your cookies and designs!
Thank you, Jenn! This post has information on how to prevent color bleed. The same rules apply to icing colored with edible ink markers. Scroll down a bit to find the section on Royal Icing Troubleshooting Tips: http://www.sweetambs.com/tutorial/royal-icing-consistencies/
so cool.
I’ve seen decorators use a pentel aquash brush. Very cool. Have you seen that before?
Love this idea! Thank you for posting.
